Almora

Almora is a perfect picturesque district. You will notice a fine blend of ancient cultural influences, mountain beauty, scenic valleys, crystal lakes, quaint cottages, sanctified spots, gushing rivers and thickly wooded forests. All this things inspires one to sya “Switzerland in India”.

Almora is a hill resort in the Kumaon region of the Uttaranchal state. It is an amazing scenic place located at a height of 5900 ft. above the sea level. This place was founded by the Raja Kalyan, emperor of the Chand Dynasty during 1560 A.D. Almora town is mould in the horse show shape balanced on 5 km long mountain ranges in the middle of the Suvial and Kosi river.

You will also find a cave in where Swami Vivekananda meditated and enlightened. British captured Almora from the Gorkhas, who actually left their marks on Almora. The best festival which is celebrated here is Nanda Devi festival. During this festival many devotees through out the world visit this amazing place.
